- When someone joins a channel, you will sometimes see their address written out as nickname!user@machine.domain.com, for example. A mask is a pattern that will match this. You use a mask when you ban someone from a channel, so that, for example, banning *!user@machine.domain.com would ban anyone using that username on that machine.
